In an effort to address a labor shortage in the construction sector, Israel is set to welcome around 6,000 Indian workers between April and May 2024. This comes amid ongoing regional conflicts and a significant gap in the availability of local labor, which has caused delays in key projects. The shortage has been exacerbated by the revocation of work permits for Palestinian laborers due to the ongoing conflict with Gaza.
The Indian workers, many of whom are skilled in trades such as masonry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work, will be part of a government-to-government (G2G) agreement aimed at stabilizing Israel’s construction industry. Israeli authorities are providing subsidies to transport these workers via charter flights. This move is seen as crucial for maintaining the progress of several infrastructure projects that have been delayed due to labor shortages
